The ITA is holding elections for its board of directors. Candidates were announced on July 24 (click here for a list of candidates.) Board members are responsible for the management and operations of the ITA, and for fulfilling committee assignments associated with this effort (including the travel and lodging expenses associated with at least four board meetings each year). This year, a total of nine seats will be up for election: two equipment seats, one allied products seat, one distributor seat, one lotion seat and four salon seats. In order to stagger the terms and continue the process of each seat being on a three-year cycle, the election process will be slightly different than in years past. “It is a little more complicated this year with the expansion of the board and a vacancy in the equipment sector,” says ITA Executive Director John Overstreet. “But it will certainly be exciting to have so many new directors working to build the industry and further the goals of the ITA.” The newly elected directors in the allied, distributor and lotion sectors will serve the standard three-year term beginning Oct. 1 and ending Sept. 30, 2011. For the equipment sector seats, the candidate receiving the greatest total votes will serve a three-year term, and the candidate who comes in second will serve a two-year term. For the four salon seats, the top two candidates will serve for three years, the candidate who comes in third will serve for two years, and the candidate who comes in fourth will serve for one year. The following incumbent board members’ three-year terms expire on Sept. 30 and each has indicated intent to seek re-election: Jim Shepherd (allied products), Karen Bentlage (distributor), Greg Henson (manufacturer) and Dan Humiston (salon). President’s Message Expanding participation has been the trademark of the ITA board over the past two years, and from the current board’s perspective, that effort has paid great dividends. Almost 100 ITA members have attended our 2008 series of meetings to help the board craft various policies and make plans to further all of our business interests. At the June meeting, the board took another important step when it voted unanimously to expand the board to 18 directors by adding three seats to the salon sector. Beginning on Oct. 1, the board will have six directors from the salon sector complementing the other 12 directors (which include three directors each from the equipment, lotion, allied products and distributor sectors.) In this year’s election, we will fill an unprecedented number of seats; it's up to you which candidates will represent our industry. Get out and vote. Thanks, Dan Humiston, ITA President
