Building on its motto “Your Partner In Tanning”, ETS Tan’s Rejuvasun™ spa bed allows salons to maximize return on equipment investment and provide a convenience for customers who want to combine light therapy and tanning during one session. Introduced at the 2006 ITA Tanning World Expo, the unit has received rave reviews.

Appealing To The Masses

Light therapy is attracting significant positive media attention and its benefits are scientifically supported, which is increasing public interest.

“Light therapy increases revenue by fulfilling customers’ needs,” says Bill Pipp, CEO of Indianapolis-based ETS Tan. “Tanners and non-tanners alike are interested in looking their best, and this new non-invasive technology is a breakthrough to help them rejuvenate their skin and feel better about themselves and their appearance.”

Treatments are affordable, fast and gentle, and the largest target demographic for the service is looking for skin-rejuvenating alternatives to cosmetic surgery. Salons can capture a wide range of customers—from baby boomers looking to repair aging skin to young adults getting a jump start on skincare maintenance.

“This type of treatment is a very cost-effective way for salons to promote tanning, skincare and anti-aging services, and it allows salons to advertise a service acceptable to spas and dermatologists,” Pipp says. “It’s a way to talk about something that is overwhelmingly positive that can possibly help change the image of tanning and take our industry to the next level of success.”

Rejuvenating Possibilities

Rejuvasun’s unique patent-pending technology combines full-body tanning with a facial LED technology panel designed to stimulate and rejuvenate the skin. The unit is ideal for all skin types and features a non-UV, pulsating LED panel that delivers low-energy light pulses in specific frequencies and colors that can help skin appear smoother and younger.

The Helios-compatible unit operates in three modes—beauty enhancing sessions alone, tanning alone or a combination of the two. This allows for a greater customer base because individuals not interested in tanning still can enjoy a relaxing rejuvenation session.

Rejuvasun is the first tanning bed on the market to feature an LED panel that incorporates three different wavelength LEDs—yellow, amber and super red—into its design; other devices typically only select one wavelength for rejuvenation.

“Light therapy has been around since the 1950s, and studies have shown certain wavelengths of light have restorative properties when applied to the skin,” Pipp says. “Our wavelength ranges fall in the 580-650 nanometer range. We believe the power of those three together have the most beneficial results, especially when pulsed because it improves the effectiveness of the light range.”

ETS provides salons with SunGlobes™ that feature darker lenses than standard protective eyewear to shield customers’ eyes from the light of the Rejuvasun panel.

The Rejuvasun unit is reasonably priced just above the cost of an entry-level tanning unit. According to the company, operating costs are not much more than those of an actual tanning bed because the LED lights don’t pull as much energy and have about a 20,000-hour life—a significant savings to salons.

The Rejuvasun process only takes 20 minutes with no recovery time, redness or peeling, Pipp says. To achieve the best results, ETS suggests a 20-session regimen staggered over a 3-month period—three sessions per week for four weeks; one session per week for maintenance for the next eight weeks; and a repetition of the entire regime every three months.

The RejuvaSkin™ skincare regime by Australian Gold is designed to be used each session to maximize the Rejuvasun experience. Three products work synergistically to refine, repair and rebuild skin for a smoother, more youthful appearance and texture.

“A tanning room is a revenue-producing area. A regular tanning room provides one line of revenue or two if you include lotion sales; however, the Rejuvasun concept allows for two additional lines of revenue in that room,” Pipp says. “It’s a win-win all around.”
