Certification = Professionalism

by Amy Thorlin

One of the most important aspects to consider when looking at the indoor tanning industry is education. Since 1992, the National Tanning Training Institute has trained nearly 20,000 salon professionals. Statistics from our survey reveal that approximately 98 percent of salons that submitted surveys have received some type of certification. More and more salon operators are realizing that certification shows their customers that they are taking the business of tanning seriously and running a professional indoor tanning facility. Education is the key to prosperity and integrity. Motivating themselves and their staff to learn and understand tanning will have benefits for years to come. Even if you are in a state that does not require formal training, be proactive and make certification mandatory for all employees. It not only provides you with competent employees, but it provides a professional touch to your business.

NTTI Courses Online

The first three months of the year provide many educational opportunities since classroom certifications, distributor symposiums and manufacturer trainings are held this time of year to help salon owners and operators gear up for the season. Another resource is the National Tanning Training Institute’s (NTTI) online education program. It removes the physical boundaries and time constraints of classroom training and allows employees to receive the necessary training on their own schedules. Now is an ideal time for salon owners to take advantage of this convenience and encourage employees to train online during lulls in the day. NTTI’s objective is to provide the indoor tanning industry with valuable, affordable and convenient training for salon owners and operators. All courses are available online 24/7 and provide a complete range of information.
