2003 Stand-Up Units

The following is a glimpse of UV-free stand-up equipment available for commercial tanning salons.

Four Seasons Sales & Service, Inc.

Four Seasons introduces the state-of-the-art Summer Image Sunless Studio utilizing Instant Tan revolutionary 6-second technology for superior UV-free tanning, the company says. For 6 seconds users will be misted by nine nozzles. The mist will completely cover the body, creating a natural reaction with the top layers of skin to produce a natural-looking tan.

Mystic Tan, Inc.

The Mystic Tan booth is designed to deliver a customized sunless tanning application to each customer based on his or her body size, skin type and desired color. The Mystic Tan booth is a full-body, DHA tanning process that utilizes MagneTan technology to produce a natural-looking tan without the use of UV rays.

MagneTan technology is the process that allows the Mystic Tan booth to apply a uniform amount of solution to all parts of the body. As the solution passes through the nozzles, the particles of solution are polarized, taking on the characteristics of tiny magnets. MagneTan technology then uses the body's own magnetic properties to attract the solution particles to the skin. The result is a perfectly uniform, natural-looking tan in less than 60 seconds and lasts, on average, four to five days.

ETS, Inc.

ETS, Inc., manufacturer of the Sunless Express Spray Spa, recently updated its latest model with 15 enhancements. Some enhancements include improved solution distribution, better foot-spray coverage and greater disinfectant delivery during the wash-down cycle. Other advancements are engineering enhancements users may not notice, such as new industrial valves and several safety features. Each customer who purchased the previous model was to receive an upgraded spa in the first quarter of 2003.

The private, UV-free Sunless Express gives an immediate tan that darkens within a few hours. A fine mist of sugar-based sunless bronzing solution produces a streak-free tan. A gravity foot spray prevents solution from building up around toes and feet. The booth design also features automatic voice instructions and friendly controls.

Heartland Tanning, Inc.

Heartland Tanning's new Sun Spritz booth provides users with a 100-percent, UV-free golden tan in just a few seconds. With just the touch of a button the tanner is misted with a high-quality self-tanning solution of DHA, bronzers, nourishing moisturizers and vitamins.

The sealed, stainless-steel unit features high-pressure atomizer-valve spray jets that are positioned 360 degrees around the user. The system also features a fully automated lotion- control system that refills the reservoir after each client and alerts salon employees when the lotion container needs replacing. An automatic wash-down system saves staffing costs and reduces human error of cleaning the unit.

The Sun Spritz has an octagon-shaped dressing room with an octagon-shaped spray booth measuring 4 feet by 8 feet. It runs on a standard 110-volt outlet.

Hollywood Tans

Hollywood Tans offers its first-ever patented UV-Free Instant Tan Booth, which provides customers with an all-over sunless tan in just a few minutes.

The entire process takes less than 10 minutes from start to finish, the company says. A customer enters a completely private tanning booth where he or she prepares the session. Upon entering the tanning chamber, the customer is lightly misted with a combination of self-tanner, bronzers and moisturizers. The actual misting lasts only 6 seconds and produces a bronze, natural-looking tan that lasts up to seven days, the company says.

The Instant Tan Booth is available for all tanners, but it's especially attractive for hard-to-tan skin types or people who cannot be exposed to UV rays for medical reasons.

Mist-On Systems, Inc.

Based on his research on automatic coating processes and the latest misting technology, Dr. Tom Laughlin founded the Mist-On Tan system, applying his original idea to the commercial world of indoor tanning in 1999. The system is a self-contained, automated-ventilated misting system that coats the tanner with a thin film of atomized sunless solution in a matter of seconds at the touch of a button.

An air-driven arm moves a vertical column containing multiple atomizing nozzles from side to side four times, with a programmed firing of the nozzles with each pass. The user assumes a forward-position stance on the first pass, and then turns 90 degrees clockwise with each pass. The nozzles are arranged in an upper set and lower set. The PLC fires the air and liquid solenoids of the two sets of nozzles in a predetermined pattern for each pass. Each pass takes about 12 seconds, so the entire session is about 48 seconds.

MagicTan Corp.

MagicTan offers its new 100-percent UV-free tanning machine. Manufactured domestically, the fully-automated MagicTan MT3000 is equipped with 36 non-moving spray heads to produce an even, golden tan. With virtually no moving parts, there are fewer mechanical failures, less required maintenance and maximum uptime, the company says.

Additionally, the proprietary MagicTan solution is specially formulated to work with the sophisticated MagicTan machine to provide a superior UV-free tan. The unit is ideal for tanning salons, health clubs, spas, beauty salons, vacation resorts and other health- and beauty-related businesses.
