Rick Norvell’s roots in the industry began in 1977 with the start of Body Drench lotion. The primary focus of the company was manufacturing tanning and skincare products with skin health and science in mind. In 1996, the Norvell family made the difficult decision to sell the business, but Rick could not stay away from an industry so dear to his heart. In 2000, the doors reopened under the new name of “Norvell Skin Solutions LLC.” Since that day, the business has seen rising growth and continues to make its mark within the industry, spreading the motto that “healthy skin tans best.”

Norvell is no stranger to the importance of tanning education and legislation. In 1980, he was instrumental in forming the industry’s first trade association, Suntan Association for Education (SAFE), which later became the SAE. In 1999, he was involved in the creation and formation of the Indoor Tanning Association (ITA). Now, as a longstanding ITA board member, Norvell makes it a top priority to share the importance of how this organization works for the industry.

Most recently, he’s served on the membership committee chaired by Karen Bentlage of Future Industries, and he continues to work alongside Joe Schuster to strengthen and build the ITA's membership. "Working diligently and aggressively to increase individual participation and financial backing is key to supporting the goals of the ITA,” Norvell shares. “The commitment of salon owners and industry leaders to the ITA allows continued education of our lawmakers and legislators, further strengthening the mission of the ITA.”

Norvell is proud to call Nashville, Tenn., home, and has the unique pleasure of working side-by-side with his family. “I’m fortunate to be joined by my son Cale (sales and marketing), as well as my brother Greg (VP of manufacturing), sister-in-law Lynn (CFO) and daughter Ellen (logistics),” Norvell reports. “I also have the joy of working with a great team of people who I consider my extended family; individuals who have played a valuable part in making the Norvell name the success it is today.”
