Dan Caskey began his career in the indoor tanning industry at the young age of 17. With an interest in architecture, he had the direction and desire to set out to pay for his college education. He saw indoor tanning as that avenue when he purchased his first salon in Muncie, Ind.

However, by the time he purchased his second location in Richmond, Ind. in 1994 and sold the Muncie location, the hook was set. Indoor tanning would now be his primary focus. In 2001, Caskey opened his first location in Cincinnati. This site basically laid the foundation and growth trajectory for his 29 current Ohio locations.

With the amount of salons he operates in Ohio, Caskey has found it increasingly important to be involved with state regulatory affairs concerning indoor tanning. His initial involvement in this direction was with a meeting attended by future and fellow Indoor Tanning Association (ITA) board members Marty Gallagher and Rob Quinn. This occurred when the Hamilton, Ohio city council was entertaining legislation to ban indoor tanning for anyone under the age of 18. Together with Gallagher and Quinn, the trio was successful in holding off the vote – which in turn permitted for a hearing at the following month’s meeting. They beat the proposed city legislation, and to this day, Caskey continues the fight with Ohio lawmakers when their efforts center on unfair or restrictive regulations on indoor tanning.

Caskey has been on the board of directors of the ITA for the past two years and was just recently re-elected. He’s been involved on the ITA’s political funding raising PAC committee, as well as the membership committee.

Caskey is certainly busy but always makes the effort to carve out plenty of time for his family, with whom he loves to travel.
