Establishing a Web Presence

As a professional salon owner, it’s imperative that you have an online presence. Surveys have shown that today’s mobile society is likely to research businesses on the Internet prior to doing business with them. If you don’t have a website – or you have a tacky one – you will lose the opportunity to impact those potential customers.

Matt Silverman wrote a great article that removes all excuses from business owners that don’t currently have a Web presence. In his article, “How to Run Your Business Online With $10 (and a Google Account),” he walks you through the specific directions on how to create your very own business Web or blog page. And it really does only cost $10. Silverman sums it up well: “Online infrastructure for your small business doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. By leveraging many of the free and inexpensive products offered by Google, you can create a website, a domain-branded e-mail system, and a document collaboration platform, all unified under one master login and password.”

Silverman’s tips are enough to help even the least tech-savvy among us to get up and running online. And for those salon owners who need a helping hand maintaining the site – good news, this platform can be handled by multiple users. So if you like, you can recruit some staff to help you keep things up to date. (Just make sure you choose them wisely!)
