Social Media: Getting Started

Intrigued by social media, but unsure of where to start? Duane Brodt, communications specialist for Coles Marketing Communications, offers a few tips:

Talk to your intended audience. Conversing with your target audience really depends on the social media platform you choose—the tone of conversation on business-oriented sites, such as LinkedIn, is different than on a social site such as Facebook. The key is to find a way to converse with your audience that works for the site and is engaging. Just remember to talk to—not at—your audience.

Share what you know. A musician uses social media to share music, because that is his or her area of expertise. You should also be sharing in your area of expertise as a salon owner. This positions you as an expert in your field, which makes people trust and respect you as an authority on all things tanning.
