Social Media: Find Clients Online, Track Your Results

A recent series of BusinessWeek's “Today’s Tips” from Jay Henderson (Director of Product Marketing, Unica, Waltham, Mass.) covered the topic of social media. Henderson discussed:

How to find your customers online. He suggests searching for your salon (or industry topics in general) using sites such as: Google Blog Search, YouTube and Facebook. This will help you find out if customers are already talking about your business (or tanning) and, if so, where and what they are saying.

After you find the conversations, join them. Use these media to share your knowledge and expertise. And, when you are ready, think about starting your own social media outlets—such as a blog, so that you can constantly update your clients as to what is going on at the salon and tell them about specials.

As with any marketing, track your results. Just as you do with all of the other marketing vehicles you use, you’ll want to track the results you get with social media. And, if something isn’t working for you, drop it—focus on what’s helping your company.
