To survive in 2009, retailers must focus on “evolving to the changing needs and wants of their shoppers,” says Joel Alden, principal with the retail practice of A.T. Kearney, in an article for CNNMoney.
To do this, Alden suggests a variety of strategies, such as providing value beyond price as a way to differentiate your business from the competition. He does not support the idea of drastically slashing prices to pull in customers because it can devalue the business as a whole.
