Certification Is Simple Through NTTI Online

by Amy Thorlin

This year has brought a continued increase in national regulatory issues, media attention and stiffer industry competition. To stay competitive in today’s market, is it critically important for salon owners and operators to be properly educated and arm themselves with the facts. Education gives owners the confidence to perform the daily operations of their businesses and enables them to dissect negative media attention. It gives clients the reassurance that the salon practices moderate, sensible and responsible tanning practices. Being certified gives owners and their salons a competitive edge in today’s dynamic marketplace.

Now more than ever, convenient opportunities exist to expand indoor tanning education. Although classroom education always is an extremely valuable option, it is not always feasible for all salon owners and operators. Since June 2001, the National Tanning Training Institute’s Online Resource Center has made learning more accessible because it removes the physical boundaries of the classroom, reduces class-scheduling conflicts and offers easy access to industry training via any online computer 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This convenience allows salon owners and operators to study at their own pace and not worry about scheduling situations. The following highlights NTTI’s lineup of online courses.

Basic Certification Course

NTTI’s online Basic Certification provides indoor tanning salon owners and operators with an effective and inexpensive way to earn the crucial certification needed to successfully operate a tanning facility while staying competitive in an evolving industry.

The online course covers the most current information regarding UV light, skin anatomy and physiology, exposure schedules, photosensitivity, and state and federal regulations, along with numerous other topics related to the technical aspects of indoor tanning. The material is presented in a manner that is practical and understandable to salon owners and operators.

NTTI’s online Basic Certification is recognized in all states except Oregon, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina and New Hampshire that require in-classroom training.

In addition to in-depth coverage of the topics above, the program also includes a 70-page training manual, discussion on handling daily operational standards and a final exam. Successful participants in the course are issued a certificate of completion from NTTI.

Salon Operations & Procedures Course

Managing and operating an indoor tanning salon is not a simple task. Although the daily procedures may seem like second nature to the experienced professional, the novice salon operator may find them overwhelming. This program provides the operational procedures salon owners must use and understand in daily operations. Although some details may vary slightly depending upon location and business goals, the program offers solid steps to use as effective guidelines.

Lotions & Skincare Course

This course highlights the importance of quality skincare and clears up misconceptions about the most common ingredients found in indoor tanning lotions. It includes merchandising and display tips as well as a section on salon necessities needed to keep a tanning salon one step ahead of the competition.

Sunless Course

NTTI also offers an online certification course for the rapidly growing sunless segment of indoor tanning. For the past five years, sunless has been one of the fastest-growing segments of the indoor tanning industry. When marketed correctly, sunless offers indoor tanning salons a new way to build their customer base and increase profits. Sunless tanning has opened up an incredible market, catering to tanning enthusiasts who use sunless as a complement to their traditional UV tan and individuals who cannot achieve a traditional tan or who choose not to tan conventionally.

Sunless Airbrush Technician Course

Recently updated, this course is designed specifically for the airbrush or HVLP technician. Based on research and tests conducted by leading manufacturers of sunless spray systems, this course takes the technician from setup to application while discussing technique, safety, pricing and more.

Introduction To Sunless Course

This course covers the basics about sunless tanning and is designed to help salon employees address customer needs and promote another increasingly popular service for the tanning industry.
