Cosmoprof 2000

by Leonard C. Keller, Ph.D.

The 33rd Cosmoprof Trade Show, the world's largest event for the beauty, cosmetic and indoor tanning industries, recently was held in Bologna, Italy April 14-17. More than 140,000 attendees visited 1,600 exhibitors representing 47 countries at the show. In addition, the show was held in 13 buildings covering more than 600,000 square feet of exhibition space. The following is a brief recap of Cosmoprof 2000.

As I was flying to Italy, I began to reminisce about Cosmoprof, an industry trade show that I have been attending for the past 20 years and have been covering for readers in LOOKING FIT since 1988. In addition, I have talked with many of you regarding the various tanning units that I have seen at the show over the years.

Over the years I recall the double and triple face units and when hand tanning became available. In the high-pressure market there have been a number of new innovations over the years including 2-person tanning beds, stand-up units, beds that rotate and beds that are very futuristic in design.

At Cosmoprof 2000 there were 26 companies from Germany, Spain, England, Sweden, Belgium and Holland exhibiting high- and low-pressure equipment, high-pressure facials and residential tanning equipment. Although 70 percent of tanning in Italy is high-pressure, this is the second straight year that low-pressure tanning equipment has made a very strong showing. The following are just a few of the larger and more innovative companies that exhibited at the show.

Muster

Iso Italia

Sportarredo--The leader in the Italian tanning market. At the show they had by far the largest exhibition area, showcasing their complete product line along with an area serving drinks and snacks.

Iso Italia--An innovative and creative company that is the second largest producer behind Sportarredo. The company offers both high- and low-pressure units. At this year's show, they introduced a very nice high-pressure bed called the MATRIX. The bed is high-pressure on both the top and bottom and even includes side tanners with a 15-minute exposure time.

White Sun--A very creative high-pressure company that offers beds and facials. This year, the company developed a bed with low-pressure lamps on the bottom and high-pressure lamps surrounding the face and traveling from the tanner's feet to their chest.

Sportarredo®

White Sun

Muster--A very well known and established manufacturer that offers every type of tanning equipment and cosmetic machines available. This is a company that currently is looking for an American company to import its line of high- and low-pressure equipment for the commercial and residential markets.

Everson--A medium-size company that manufacturers high-pressure bed and facials along with a low-pressure booth. At the show they introduced a new low-pressure facial called the Ghost.

Stenal

euracom

Tancab--An English manufacturing company of tanning booths that recently designed a booth that's exterior is a mold of a woman's body. A different look for a different type of company.

Other companies that exhibited during the four-day event were: Guard Estetica, UWE, UltraTan, JK Ergoline, Dr. Kern, Idol, Venera New Look, Compagnia del Sol, Stenal, cé Sole e Sole, Sun Club, Top Solar, Touch Productions, Union Gemini, Expo Italia, Soledad, Kaysun, Catapano and Sunflower.
