Celebrities – and the occasional politician – have been know to receive a ribbing or two in the press when their tanning choices leave them looking what some would coin as “orange.” However, 33-year-old “Avatar” star Sam Worthington claims his latest spray-tan experience left him looking green.
During the filming of his latest movie, Worthington, a self-confessed “pale Australian,” endured daily spray tans while wearing only a paper thong. Producers of the costly “Clash of the Titans” remake requested the simulated tanning treatments to help darken up their version of Greek mythology’s Perseus. The actor jokes that it was the hardest part of making the epic film – which regularly pitted him against formidable foes such as giant scorpions.
Worthington reports the substance that was used to spray tan him began peeling off, so he scrubbed his body to try to remove it. Unfortunately, that resulted in the green hue on his skin. With a big budget and hyped-up special effects, it’s a wonder the film’s producers couldn’t muster up an effective tan.
