New research shows that some businesses are having measurable marketing success on Facebook. One study indicates that companies using the social networking site to promote their services and products may have a leg up when it comes to customers recommending their businesses.

The report confirms that Facebook users do join business-related fan pages, as well as using the platform to give and take references concerning various companies and products. Facebookers proved to be receptive to viral marketing efforts such as discounts and coupons, in addition to simply receiving business-related information.

More than one-third of the respondents find the site helpful when investigating products, while more than double that amount acknowledged that a Facebook friend’s endorsement would increase their likelihood to use a certain business provider or purchase something.

An ethnic component of the survey also shows Caucasians to be among the less-common users of business Facebook activity – with African Americans, Asians and Hispanics all showing higher product-research participation rates.
