Doc Thompson, who was covering the airwaves in the absence of radio show host Glenn Beck, alleged racism on the part of the new 10 percent tanning tax that’s embedded in the health care bill. He shared his comments publicly as he guest hosted on March 30, 2010.
Mentioning President Obama’s past statements empathizing with those who have experienced racism, Thompson pointed out the irony of the president’s endorsement of a measure rooted in discrimination. Thompson noted that U.S. indoor tanners are not naturally “dark-skinned people,” but “light-skinned Americans.”
Regardless of whether Thompson was being satirical or serious (or both), his claim of now having experienced “the pain of racism” has gone down in radio-show history.
