A Canadian study suggests that high doses of vitamin D reduce the relapse rate in people with multiple sclerosis (MS).

The study, which was presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Neurology, compared 25 people with MS who were given an average of 14,000 international units (IUs) of vitamin D per day for a year with 24 other MS patients took 1,000 IUs of vitamin D. Out of the first group, 16 percent suffered relapses while 40 percent of the second group relapsed.
