According to recent study results, ultraviolet light may help alleviate pain in fibromyalgia syndrome patients.

The study was conducted at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and a report appears in the January issue of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine. It included 19 fibromyalgia patients who were exposed to both UV and non-UV rays in tanning beds for two weeks. The patients were then divided into UV and non-UV groups for four weeks, receiving light treatments three times a week for a total of six weeks. UV exposure resulted in some improvement in pain, well-being and relaxation compared with the non-UV group.
